2.4 ECOtec short block with a custom reluctor ring
    2.2 ECOtec head
    2.4 intake
    2.0sc exhaust manifold

and this will make an easy 175hp?

Well when you figure out how to get the 2.4 reluctor ring out of the crank and a 2.2 E16a reluctor ring on, let me know. If someone would come out with a aftermarket 2.2 crank with the 2.4 stroke, would make the lives of us who have 03-04 Ion's (can't event get a gm reflash, sigh) and cav/sunfire 2.2's E16a ecotecs easier for HP.

ok well IF you were able to get the 2.2 reluctor ring on a 2.4 block, what tranny would you use?

The LE5 reluctor ring is held on with I think 3 screws, theres actually a thread here about it.

Use the tranny youve got. LE5's and L61's use the same trannies off the production line so theres no reason to think youd have to swap in the field.

maven you might want to add:

-06+ L61s and LE5 heads cannot utilize the jbody power steering pump since they lack the flange needed on the intake side of the head

-02-05 ecotec crankshafts DO NOT HAVE A REMOVABLE RELUCTOR RING!!! I see this asked all the time.. IT IS NON REMOVABLE.

-LE5s have an 88mm bore so doing an LE5 rotating assembly in an L61 or an LSJ would not be a 'plug and play' matter.

Im not up on my eco specs but does the 2.4 have a smaller bore than the 2.2? I say that b/c if it was bigger then couldn't the 2.2 be bored. Im not trying this, I would rather just swap the bottom end totally but just for clarification reasons.

what? 88mm is larger than 86mm last I checked.

I'd imagine the sleeves used in the LE5 are sized to accomodate the larger piston as well as being able to re-hone the sleeve for a rebuild.

Dang dude it was late last night. I said that to ask why it couldnt be bored out. But you said it wouldnt be plug and play. Somehow I read that as you saying that it cant be done. My bad.

You cant just bolt in an LE5 bottom end. The pistons wont fit. You'd have to sleeve the engine to work with the 88mm pistons from the LE5 or get custom 86mm pistons that work with 98mm crank/rod combo, or get custom length rods so you can use stock L61 type pistons.

    so how would this work......
take a L61 head and block, use the LE5 crank and rods and use megasquirt to use the 58x wheel. buy the darton sleeves in the L61 and bore them to 88mm to fit the LE5 pistons. as the darton sleeves say they can be bored safely to 90mm for N/A projects, but at stock 86mm bore can handle massive boost or high nitrous.

Cheapest route is gonna be to get custom pistons. IE: L61 Head/Block, LE5 Crank/rods, Bespoke pistons. But what you should REALLY do is get good rods AND pistons.
