LSJ + F23.. the answer is HERE

so last night I decided to do a little experiment.

since I dropped my transmission thinking I had a problem, I wanted to check if I truly needed the LSJ trans spacer or not.

I torqued the trans in place, removed the spark plugs, and put a wrench on the crank pulley and spun the engine listening for scraping noises.

..and try to... spin.... damn why is this thing so hard to turn.

ok breaker bar should do it... damn, still can't turn it....

I then loosened the bolts on the trans so it could sneak away from the engine slightly.

    the engine spun free.
I reinstalled the LSJ trans spacer, torqued it down and the engine spun free. This spacer NEEDS to be installed in order for the LSJ and F23 to get along nicely.

the clutch on the LSJ is just a lil too tall for the F23 bellhousing. If anyone in the future wants to do an LSJ bottom end into their jbody, you NEED to have the LSJ trans spacer P/N 12583853

you cannot mix and match flywheel/clutch combinations. The 8 bolt flywheel on the LSJ/LNF accepts a certain clutch. The 6 bolt flywheel on the L61/LE5 accepts a different type of clutch.

an LE5 hybrid in a jbody will work out of the box with the F23 since it uses the same clutch/flywheel as the L61.

    of the spacer?

I cut mine in two right above where the starter is in order to make installing it a lot easier with the transmission already in the car.

When using with a f23 trans, yes, spacer is required.
