    lsj without boost

ok guys i am building a hombre and putting an eco in it.....the cost of the swap is going to be heavy so keep that in mind....my idea is to get a boost ready motor like the lsj and run it na with bolt ons until i can turbo it in the future....would i be able to say run an lsj with stock tune for a 2.2 or would the lsj stock tune compinsate for the lack of boost?

The LNF is a 2 liter that comes turboed. There should be a few totaled 08+ Cobalt SSs out there.

a 9.5:1 compression motor designed for boost will not like not having it.
it would have to be compensated in the tune.

but your saying it might work....i am having a hard time choosing what motor to get. i want something that will possibly take boost in the future or an na set up around 175hp. with that in mind i am thinking lsj (possible boost in future) or le5 for an na set up. to throw another stick in the fire i am going to have to wire this thing to work in the hombre(s10).

le5 is 10.3:1 (i think) compression ratio it's not a very good motor to boost. lsj isn't going to like n/a either cause it's 9.5:1. it can be done but the thing's just not gonna run well.

considering my stock 2.2l motor is only 9:1 i don't consider 9.5:1 a low compression ratio

You'll need an lsj ecm for the lsj. l61 ecm for the l61, etc. You'll probably have to tune the lsj for n/a if you're not going to have the supercharger on it. I would think most lsj's would come with the blower assembly.

actually the lsj's i have found down here for the most part come without the blower. as for wiring yes i understand i will be retaining the stock eco computer... i plan on trying to wire in the engine harness to my hombre harness and with hptuners making it all work....just like an lsx swap would. i know it isn't that bad with an lsx motor (my other project lsx third gen rx7) so i am hoping the eco will be the same. i read somewhere that a sandrail company offered an eco swap kit with a 5 wire hook up harness. so i am thinking it is going to be ok

I do not see a problem running a LSJ in NA format. If you tune it it should be fine.

watch your cams is all I can say. The LSJ cam timing is a bit different and better set for boost.

overall, the LSJ is a better engine than the L61. A lot of things the L61 have to upgrade is already present on the LSJ.

the LSJ also has a better rod ratio than the L61, so despite the compression being lower, it could potentially equal or be very close to the L61 in an n/a format. The LSJ is dimensionally 98% identical to the K20 honda engine. Bore, stroke, rod ratio, are pretty much identical, so you could sorta-kinda guess how the LSJ would do n/a by comparing to that engine..

however, the K20 has a way higher compression ratio so that takes away some power but still, the bottom end is there for high revs and decent power naturally aspirated.

not sure what 0460rr's goals are for the hombre tho.. but the LSJ should run ok all motor.. but if you don't do a cam change and some tuning it'll be way down on power.

also, parts from the L61 bolt on to the LSJ fine, but they don't work 100% correctly in terms of the intake manifold.. the PCV hole is in a different location, so you'd have to drill and tap it and run an external hose to the manifold somewhere in order for it to work properly.

anyone know the cam specs? i really like the idea of going with the lsj it just seems like a better motor.....i really wish i could get the sc set up to fit the rwd set up but the throttle body would be in the firewall....i thought about cutting it down a few inches and putting a bigger tb flange on it.....this seems far fetched
