    Noise/Valve Tick?

I looked at the "noisy engine thread below, but it doesn't match up to what I'm hearing. Since I bought the car (Had 58K KM's on it) it's always had this noise. Dad mentioned it might jhave something to do with lifters or valves, but really couldn't say for sure, as he never heard it before. I have bo clue myself, so I'll let you guys take a hack at it. Here's the video:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3CAoeE0KtA[/ame]

You can't hear it very well at first, but when I bring the camera close to the motor, you can hear it pretty clearly (Like a ticking). Thanks in advance,

    Hodder

    Something in the valvetrain....

But is that a stock oil filler cap?

Think I should get it looked at? I've had the Valve Cover off the Cavalier I had (2200 OHV) but I'm not sure I'd be able to spot a problem.

As to the best of my knowledge, that's the stock cap. Fits properly anyways haha.

sounds really familiar. but if your sure its from the head then ignore this post....

    One of the following;
    -input shaft bearing
    -throw out bearing
    -pilot bearing

does it become less noisy when you put it in gear? could eliminate some possibilities by knowing the tranny.

I think the throw out bearing is on the way out, just never knew the sound could have been coming from that. Should that be replaced immediatley, or can it go for awhile?

Yes. And the old man did mention it seemed like the throw out bearing was going/gone (I'm 18, first car I bought without him looking it over first, so he basically raped it for things when he got back onshore)

thats the kinda thing i always replace at the same time as my clutch. but personally, i would get it fixed, cuz anything not fully funtional is bad in my book. especially if it has been doing it for a while.

Then that may be the throwout bearing...

Does it make the same noise when you are pressing on the clutch pedal?

When you rev it up (in neutral, not on the clutch pedal) does the noise rise with the RPMs?

In the video above, I'm revving to about 2500RPM in Neutral, however I can't really tell while in the car how much louder it gets. I'll get a buddy over sometime this weekend (Finals on the go at College) and see if it does rise with RPM increase, and check myself if the noise persists when I press on the clutch. If it does, what does that indicate?

usually it will be more quiet when the clutch is compressed.

Not any more quiet when the clutch is in, no change at all really. Brought it to my local garage today, he reccomended trying a lucas additive to the oil when I change it, to see if it helps, and bring a sample of the used oil in when I change it this week.
