    2002 Ecotec Timing Chain Problems?

    Hey guys,

Got wind of this problem this evening on my Grand Am Forum, a guy Just had 130K KM's and his chain went to peices. On the forum, it seems like only the guys with the 02's are experiencing this. I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, with the Ecotec 2.2L. It's a Canadian car (Not sure if that matters) and currently has 62K KM's

Are there any steps that I can take to make sure this does not happen?

BTW, this site is great! Done some searching already, as I'm always trying to get more info on SC'ing the motor!

I believe it was the 02s that had a oil nozzle in the timing area that could clog, I believe you can replace with a later one and solve this problem.

Is there any more info on this? I'd like to do that in the coming weeks, so I can avoid trouble down the road.

Anyone have an Engine diagram or Breakdown that they could highlight this oil nozzle on? I was looking at the breakdown that was sticked (Posted by CombatPhil) but I couldn't really find it.

    Bump.

Went to GM today and asked if there was a bulletin or recall, to which the replied "GM refers to that as a maitnence issue." Didn't bother to ask if they'd replace it, as they'd take me to the cleaners. Would this be a hard job to do? If I could locate the oiler I'd like to have a go at it.

I dunno. You can pull off your valve cover and make sure the top of your timing chain is lubricated and not dry to be sure it's not going to shatter on you. If you start hearing noises, it might be better to get it fixed now instead of buying a new motor later.

To add...steps to help prevent it would be to be sure your oil is clean.
