I was curious as what parts within a saab are able to be used with an lsj motor? I was mainly thinking about cams, rods, rods, pistons and crank. The reason I ask is I know that the platforms are very similar between the 9-3 and the cobalt platform. There is a 2.3 turbo motors offered in the saab 9-3 platform, I was curious if there was a way to make a budget 2.3 liter stroker for the lsj motor?

i dont think they are swappable, i think motors accessories can be swapped since they are the same bolt pattern ie turbo manifold intake manifold etc b ut internals i think they are diffrent sizes, mighty wannw ait until maven gets in here

The head from a 9-3 Turbo will fit the 2.2 block just fine .. there is a thread on the z22se UK site where someone has done just that. Advantage is the SAAB head is sand cast and stronger than the foam cast 2.2 head.

the LSJ head is sand cast as well

the saab 2.3 engine is totally different, the saab 93 2003> 2.0 turbo shares the same block and head as the LSJ, just that it's turbo'd rather than sc.

so you could convert a LSJ to a turbo, but the question 'WHY' springs to mind.

a turbo is more efficient than a supercharger 1 and 2 i was more concearned with the crank rods and pistons in hopes a 2.3l lsj.

The 2.3L H series Saab motors arent related to the 2.0L LK9(B207) series Saab ECOTEC motors, hte 2.0s are literally what the LSJ is made from, the LSJ is just a supercharged Saab LK9.

If you want a 2.3L LSJ you need to put an LE5 crank in it. Youll need custom pistons though.

BTW the 9-3 and Cobalt platform arent anymore similar than the Balt and the Solstice.

right, i have a saab 9-3 2.0T and a cobalt...and its a whole different beast...engine is the same as the ss/sc...the only difference are the manifolds for the intake and turbo

hmmm... I spose ill go for just the turbo parts then instead of a full motor.
